Artist Statement

I build systems that sense, draw, and terminate. Each system defines the conditions under which an image is permitted to appear. One reads the viewer's heartbeat through a wall and draws at the speed of a pulse it should not know. One depletes a finite graphite budget every time a body enters the room. One collapses under climate data until its own output is indistinguishable from the data destroying it. The systems run until material conditions force them to stop. What remains is not an illustration of the system's logic but a residue of a process that no longer exists.

The work operates within a framework called Conditions of Appearance: a systematic investigation into what determines whether images may appear at all.

Bio

Pascal Piron is a Luxembourg-based artist working with computational sensing systems, pen plotters, and WiFi infrastructure. Since 2023, his solo practice builds autonomous systems that sense, accumulate, and terminate according to material constraints. Previously, he maintained a collaborative practice with Karolina Markiewicz (2014-2022), working across video, installation, and performance, with presentations at the Venice Biennale, Venice Film Festival, Berlinale, and institutions across Europe and internationally.
